Fire Alarm displacement is the beginning of an installation series focusing on the urgency of climate change. Living in the pacific northwest, I have spent numerous days indoors during summer because of rapidly spreading forest fires and caustic smoke filling the lungs of people and animals. In an effort to bring greater awareness to this crisis, I have cast 4 fire alarms in concrete, signaling the weight and gravity of the situation. The work prompts the viewer to consider a surreal reality where fire alarms in the forest could be possible and have we really hit a point where something like this could be necessary? Upon further inspection, the viewer finds the functionality limited, and begs the question, is it too late?
