Tenacious Lamentation Concrete, Dyed Jute and Cord, 40"L x 20"W x 8"D
In much of my art, I explore how and where memory is held and stored in the body. What sort of tension can be experienced and not easily communicated? In Tenacious Lamentations, I use material as metaphor for the internal tensions and decompressions held in our musculature. The cast concrete arm is in a grievous position and filled with different types of cord and rope, draping down the pedestal. The concrete when cast speaks strongly to memory, there are stress cracks and spillovers that signify the lifecycle of the material as well as the human experience. Then the cord, some of it braided, shows tensions held in grief as well as the fluidity of letting go.
